I discussed the prevention part in the previous post. But what if you have the pesky silverfish in your bathrooms or kitchens already? How to get rid of silverfish which are already present in your house? There are chemical, toxic ways of doing it as well as the non-toxic ways of doing it.
  • The toxic ways of doing it include citrus sprays, aerosols and ready made baits, all of which contain harmful insecticides and pesticides. Although the toxic method kills the silverfish instantly, they can be harmful to pets and children of they come in contact with them. Just remember to replace the cucumber peels regularly with fresh ones, and very soon, the silverfish would leave your house for good.
  • Another well known and effective way to get rid of silverfish is the use of flour and water. Just mix some flour in water and form a glue like paste. Take some strips of paper and apply this paste on both the sides of the strips. Keep these strips in cabinets, on the kitchen floor as well as bathroom floor or any other place which you think might be infested with silverfish. The silverfish will be attracted to the paper strips and in the process stick to the glue like paste. Thus, they get trapped and can be removed easily.
  • Dehumidifying works great too when you want to get rid of silverfish. These insects love moisture and when you take away things that they love, they would automatically go away.
  • Apart from all that, there are electronic methods to get rid of silverfish. There are electronic devices available in the market which use sound frequencies to push out silverfish and drive them away from your home. However, sometimes, these devices can be uncomfortable for the pets, and thus, care must be taken when using them.
But you won’t need any of that if you manage you keep your house clean and free from moisture. As they say, prevention is better than cure.

Pay special attention to wallpapers in your house if any. If your wallpaper is torn, it increases the chances of silverfish making their way into your house. Either mend the torn thing or get rid of it altogether. If you have had serious problems with silverfish in the past, it is always better to get rid of wallpapers completely.
